I've had the same 15" CRT for about 6 years, and it is truely on its last legs, I can hardly read the text on some websites as the monitor is so fuzzy. I think over the next few weeks I'm going to invest in a nice new TFT screen, but I cant decided if I should go widescreen or not. I quite like the idea of widescreen for internet browsing, and movie watching, but I also game a fair bit and I've heard some complaints about widescreen gaming not being so good yet. What do you guys think? Anyone tried and been disapointed?

Widescreen is the opposite of what you want for web browsing, a widescreen in portrait mode (narrowscreen? :p) however is a beautiful thing.

Here's the obligitary widescreen gaming link. There is a lot of native support and many games can be forced into widescreen.

As far as web browsing goes widescreen is fine. My 20" tft has more vertical res than I ran my old 19" crt with (1050 as opposed to 960)so no probs there, and text etc is a lot sharper than with an average crt.

Gaming imo is a lot more immersive with widescreen. I was always a dedicated crt fanboy but widescreen has defo won me over now. And of course watching DVDs that were made in some form of wide format obviously look better too. Widescreen movies on a 4:3 or 5:4 aspect screen waste a whole lot more space.

I found moving from a 17" crt to a widescreen 19" tft the best decision i have made in a while. Although to me the widesceen just doesn't seem that big when compared to a 4:3 19", however the aspect of the widescreen is such a pleasure to work with on the desktop and gaming, not to mention movies too!

I'd say go for it mate :)

widescreen is easily the best for me.

just upgraded to the nec multisync 20wgx2 from a 1 yeard old sony 19" non-widescreen and the games are far superior on this than the non-widescreen.

the widescreen is much easier on your eyes and the picture is far superior to the non-widescreen for playing games and surfing the web as it's much more spacious.

go to your local electrical stores and compare the tft's and i bet you will like the widescreen better.
