Widescreen quandary

Hi people
I am in a bit of a quandary at the minute. I have a NEC MultiSync LCD 2070VX which has a resolution of 1600x1200 @ 4:3. I am happy with the screen apart from the aspect ratio and have been contemplating replacing it with a widescreen version. The only problem is the 1900x1200 24" monitors seem over priced when considered against their 1920x1080 counterparts.
Whilst I would like to change I do not want to take a retrograde step. I also do not want to spend much money (age old problem). I had been looking at these two options as no frills replacements

I am not bothered about tilting, height adjustable or swivelling stands it just needs to be functional with a decent picture quality (not for gaming).

Would the above monitors be ok as replacements and for those who have gone from 1200 to 1080 is it a noticeable difference?

Would like to hear peoples views - Thanks

I have to say the loss in vertical space has been a real concern so thanks for being honest.
My son has an oldish 1900x1200 (samsung) which I have used in the past which i found to be most acceptable - unfortunately he has taken it to Uni :( From what you say I think the reduction from 1200 to 1080 may indeed be a retrograde step. Might see if I can borrow a 1080 monitor to compare.

Hadn't thought of that - silly me!
Have just tried it at 1400x1050 (closest available) and the difference equated to about 45mm which is a bit too much for my liking.

Looks like I might be saving my pennies for a 1900x1200 then. What is considered to be the best value at the moment - as you might have guessed I have not bought a monitor in a while.
I would however like to limit my expenditure to £200 if possible
