Hey guys,
Just bought the Viewsonic VX2025 and chuffed with it. Running a res of 1280*1024 at moment but having issue running it at 1680*1050... I've selected the mode but the resulting desktop is too big for what I can see?

If I move the mouse to the top, bottom, left and right edges of screen, the desktop "scrolls" to the parts I cant see?

This isnt quite right is it? :)

I've updated to the latest catalyst drivers and installed drivers for my monitor btw. My graphics card is 9800 Pro.

Hope someone can shed some light on this please? :)

Cheers,
Knoxy

hhhmnn, odd. Try installing the driver for the monitor from the CD if you can, make sure you're running at 60Hz refresh, make sure you haven't got any weird graphics card options selected for using dual monitors anywhere

Aye, using driver from cd and its picked the correct monitor up

running at 60hz hasnt helped either

also, when i right click on the desktop, and view the properties, clicking along the tabs will cause explorer.exe to crash causing all my apps to barf!

any ideas? :-)

probably not a monitor issue, sounds more like a Windows / driver issue. You've tried re-installing the graphics drivers yeah?> Maybe try an older version of them, see if that helps?

I have a ATI 9600 and according to the ATI website the only ws res is 1920x1080 16:9.

Have not found a ws monitor that has this res yet so looks like either a 4:3 or going for a 23" or 24" ws.

The 9800 series has the same ws res

http://www.ati.com/products/radeon9800/radeon9800pro/specs.html

so you will need to change the monitor or use a different video card that has a matching ws res.

If you find a suitable 20" or 21" ws monitor please post the details.

Thanks

I've just got my 20" LG monitor today and when hooking it up it detected the resolution straight away and let me select it. I'm using an 9600 pro.

I have catalyst 6.3 using the Media Centre drivers.

Thats encouraging kip02.

I'm using WinME so not sure if I can upgrade to 6.3 but will check again.

Thanks for the info.

Sounds very much like a driver issue. I would either completely remove the driver from the pc as best you can or do a full format if you are not bothered about doing one. Worth a try.

aye, i'm considering the full format :-)

i do have some issues with my pc anyway so worth a shot

have played a game in WS mode though and its fine

Open the ATI CCC (if you're unlucky enough to have it) and locate Monitor Properties. Try the following:

Option 1. If "Use Extended Display Identification Data" is not checked, check it.
Option 2. If "Use Extended Display Identification Data" is checked, uncheck it and set a manual max resolution of 1680x1050 with whatever hz you want to run at.

The problem you have is that the ATI drivers believe your monitors maximum resolution is below what you are trying to display.

That worked a treat! Cheers mate :-)

One more thing I noticed though on my screen though (before and after the res change). The text isn't actually full black, its like its got pinky green pixels where it anti-aliases the text? I have some screenshots if that makes it easier to figure out what I'm blathering about :-)
