How do I get windows to recognise or force it to 1280*1024 resolution. Using the latest nvidia drivers if that makes a difference.

What monitor do you have? TFT or CRT?

If it is TFT windows should automatically select the optimal resolution for your display. Windows picks up the res of my TFT (1680x1050) without me even installing and drivers.

its the optimum res (usually) for 19" screens and decent 17" 's

its the OcUK Digimate L1931W 19" Widescreen LCD Monitor.

turned it down to 1280 x 768 as everything was just way to small at that res.

Set it to large icons if its too small , don't lose resolution.

how do you do that?

Nvm it's not the icons, it's just the text looks far to thin. I've made it bold now looks fine.

I had this problem on my Hyundai N91. Thought it was strange as I was getting high 3Dmark 06 scores.

For me it was the monitor supplied driver, only went up to 1440x900. Ive installed a plug and play driver now and has the option for 1280x1024. Try that.

desktop right click, properties, appearance, effects, untick use transition effects (speeds up desktop), and select "use the following method to smooth edges of fonts" dropdown -cleartype
