Widescreen resolutions

I know the optimum resolution on most is 1680 x 1050... but I have poor eyesight, and resolutions this high are too small for me to read. I currently use 1024x768 on a 19" CRT, and wondered if there is a widescreen equivalent, and whether games would support these resolutions....

I dont want to shell out on a widescrren (and Im looking at the NEC GX2), and then find it is no good in lower res, and no game support....

Any info would be appreciated...

Thanks

I have the NEC - it will do expansion if you run the screen at a lower resolution - it will either expand to fit the screen - and may look a little warped if the original resolution is not 16:10 ratio - or you chose the expand and "keep aspect ratio" setting - and get some black borders - probably on the left/right if you use a 4:3 resolution. You could get one of the non-widescreen models which are 4:3 ratio and then not have borders - and they may scale upto the native 1600x1200 panel resolutions rather than 1680x1050 of a widescreen equivalent.

If you use XP, the cleartype font settings can improve readability too.

Thanks for both your input.... I

was going for a standard 19" but those widescreens do look fantastic... think I really need to get to a retail outlet and have a look for myself!!! Or even try to find out what support the games I play have for widescreen resolutions other than the default 16x10.....

Thanks
