Widescreen

Widescreen displays fill more of our natural field of view, giving a higher sensation of immersion. This is great for games and films.

Personally I wouldn't upgrade to a widescreen unless it's vertical res is the same or higher then your normal screen. eg, would upgrade to a 20" wide from a 19" normal. 19" wide feels smaller to be then 19" normal, vertical res is important for applications too.

agreed

u want a 24" wide if your upgrading otherwise keep the 19"

22 inch wide is around the same height as 19 inch normal so would still be worthwhile upgrading imo if the OP can't afford 24 inch.

Like the others are saying, you need to go for a larger widescreen display to make it worth the money.

I upgraded the other week to a Dell 2007WFP from an old Dell 1800FP. It's almost identical in physical height, but much better from left to right :D

let me set things straight
i currently have a 17" monitor and want an upgrade
and i dnt know 19" or 19" widescreen.
there make more sense :confused: :confused:

20" widescreen, don't bother with a 19" they are too small.

Disagree.

I went from a 17" CRT to my 19" Widescreen TFT and I find the widescreen much, much nicer to use. I can view two pages side-by-side on a Word document and gaming is much better. :)

Thats because a 17" CRT is like a 15" TFT lol.

Yup if your 4:3 is 17" I would go for 20" widescreen.
I have a 17" 4:3 and 20" 16:10 and vertical height is about the same.
Agreed, I went from 17" 5:4 TFT to 20" 16:10 TFT and it's a good upgrade since you don't lose any height. 19" widescreen would feel like a bit of a downgrade, especially the loss in vertical resolution. I would go for 19" 5:4 or 20" 16:10.
