Sorry if this is the wrong forum, but I'm having a strange issue with my pc. Some game seem to instantly crash/bsod as soon as they start. I noticed this on bf2042, but just figured it was the game, but I tried atomic heart last night which booted fine, then when trying it again it bsoded. Strangley something like modern warfare 2 runs and so does 3dmark so not sure what's going on. I'm running windows 10, and have a 3700x and a 6900xt. Any ideas?

Edited to add its not a normal bsod, the error messages takes up the top third of the screen, but it's split that third up in 5 or 6 messages. I can't read them though as it's a blurry message.

Could be a number of things, but if the visual output is affected in any way (i.e. the blurry message), first instinct would be the graphics card. I'd update the drivers if not already done so, and/or reseat the card itself in the slot just in case. May as well reseat any other easily accessible components like the RAM while you're at it.

It could also be something PSU-related. A spike while running a (relatively) demanding game or similar. Have you ever been able to run those 2 games, or have they always caused issues?

That's what's wierd, bf2042 has been ran loads, and atomic heart itinally started up OK. I have read something about issues when changing settings in adrenaline though.

It sounds like some setting in adrenaline has maybe changed and works on some games but crashes others.
Have you recently updated or changed any settings in adrenaline?

I may have done, this weeks been a bit hectic. I was playing with chrome fan settings in adrenaline, but I prefer afterburner so I'm going to try it again with that. I also wasn't sure how fast temps should change.

Looks like it's fixed itself, tried atomic heart and it booted OK. Interestingly afterburner is setting my core to 2.5ghz, which seems high for a 6900xt.

So it still occasionally happens. This is what displayed, it happens after the splash screen amd checking event viewer (which only seems to catch it half the time) mentioned permissions and windows security centre. I use Norton so don't know if something interfering. It really is that blurry so can't read the code.

The gpu was new in December last year, but the rest of the pc is a couple of years old (ryzen 3700x). Wierd thing is that I've formatted several times and I still get it occasionally. Last night for instance I thought I'll have a quick play on atomic heart and it just would nit work despite me having been on it for the last week, got back layer last night and it worked first time. It's very annoying.

garbled error screen, happens quickly after game launch - definitely suspect GPU/GPU drivers

like something is making it boost too high and crash

try:
resetting driver settings
some other driver version
not familiar with radeon software these days, but something to downclock it or lower power limit to see if problem goes away

then umm.. physically reseating graphics card and its power cables?

I'm using afterburner rather than the amd software to control fansoeeds, but it dors look like it sets the gpu clock to 2500 which seems high for a 6900xt. It's just so inconsistent that makes it difficult.

But you said this:
That's fair. I wasn't trying to overclock, but when I looked into it (recently), it looks like afterburner is trying to do that. I should check the graphs then I'll be able to see what it goes upto, however it seems to reset it every time I reboot despite me saving it. Strangley it does save the fan speeds though. Sorry I'm being vague, I don't tend to lig stuff that frequently so going off memory quite a bit.

So bit of an update, I've checked event viewer and it seemed to point to a permissions issue. That seemeded to be OK last night, thought I'd have a cheeky play before work and bsod  . I'm going to check event viewer tonight and see if there's some other files in the registry that need changing. I'm reluctant to do a format at this time as I'm close to the end of my uni course. It is wierd how it tends to be newer games that have the issue. I wondered if one of my previous formats I may have ticked the 'leave my docs' box and it's causing issues somewhere.
