Does anyone have any idea what could be going on with my hard drives?
I have 2 SSDs and 3 machanical drives and For around the past year every few days or so my boot SSD will fail to be recognised by my bios and motherboard, all that happens is after the bios screen I get a black screen with a curser flicking back an forward for about a minute then the pc reboots right into the bios screen when restarted it does the same thing over and over. the only way for me to boot to Windows is to swap the sata cables over between the SSDs when I do that its as nothing has happened anyone got any ideas?

what make are the SSDs? have a check and see if there is any firmware updates for them and is it possible to try different sata ports?

One is a Kingston one is a crucial, as I say it's strange that the only time it will boot into Windows when it happens is when I change the cables over from one another

next time it happens it might be worth checking the bios for the boot priority and see if that has changed to the non OS SSD.

I had a second SSD which had issues with randomly disappearing in windows, rebooted and didn't see the ssd at all till I removed the cable and re seated it then it would work for a week and the same thing again. 8 months old so RMAd it

how old is the mobo? could try a clear cmos and new battery?

The boot drive totally disappears in the bios and doesn't reappear until I switch cables, the board is about 4 months old it did it with the old board also. I hear it do it, all of a sudden the computer will reboot and I will say to myself there goes the drive again

What specific models are they?

Crucial M4 for instance needs a firmware update, or you'll run into the 5200 hour bug.
