okay so my motherboard friend, so i bought a new one, however now my primary HDD wont spin up, like, it WILL spin up and read data (tried it with a usb adapter thing)
the thing is when it does spin up, the bios seems to freeze, im using rev 2.1 board in my sig, i really dont know what to do atm

can anyone think of anything? it detects my other 90gig sata HDD and my 150gig IDE drive.

tried it in every possible sata slot combination, is it HDD related or mobo or even bios?

I would reset the CMOS and set the boot priority again. Also if you have a 'quick boot' option in the BIOS then try disabling it too.

cleared cmos, its still an issue that when i plug the HDD in i have to unplug and re plug the power in whilst the PC is switched on for the HDD to spin up, when i reset however the bios freezes at the post screen, if the HDD isnt spun up then it will quite happily go past post screen and to the "cannot find OS"

this is really starting to confuse me

Not able to answer your question but can tell you that I have had more than 1 PC which hangs at post for a couple of minutes when certain (not all) usb devices are attached prior to boot up. After posting all is ok.

Your hard drive was recognised with your old motherboard? Is it same model of motherboard? Same revision? Same bios?

its a brand new motherboard, went for asus to gigabyte, the HDD isnt even reconised by the new mobo, im currently transfering important files (via usb sata adapter) and will try formating it and see if it will reconise it then.

the only usb device i had plugged in was the keyboard

okay i have formatted and the disk doesnt get detected by the motherboard still, is it disc or mobo error? (when the sata cable from the mobo is plugged in it doesnt spinup unless the sata power is unplugged and plugged back in again)
