OK if anyone here can cast their minds back in time to when they were on socket 939.......

All of a sudden my mobo is only booting off a cold start - power supply turned off then on again, overwise fans just come on and it hangs, but no beeps.

Any ideas??

Do you have another PSU you could quickly test with. Don't even have to fit it in your case as it would help rule that out and point to the mobo.

I had a problem a good year or so ago where the PC would sometimes not power on. Sometimes it would and like you say, turning the PSU on and off at the back would usually resolve it. In the end, I bought a new PSU and it fixed the issue. (As like you, I was unsure whether it was the PSU or the mobo).

Hmm no other psu i'm afraid, tempted to just buy another as it's getting a bit long in the tooth, but it's an enermax so i kinda expected it to last forever...

Would rather it's that than the motherboard, as it'd be hard justifying a new 939 one...

Better get the wallet out then

Hey BS Dave,

I've been using a DFI Ultra D for a month or so and had similar weird booting issues like you described? All the fans would spin but no POST? At first I thought the board was a bit bOrked but after a bit of prodding I found out that if I powered down after the No POST and then powered up again everything was fine. Once Windows was loaded the board was rock solid.

I had a tinker in the BIOS recently and nudged up the vDimm one notch (2.6v to 2.7v) and not had a No POST situation for a week or so . . . seems the situation may have been caused by the memory not getting enough juice or needing some BIOS work (The Ultra-D had a hideous amount of BIOS options relating to memory which I'm not in the mOOd to sus out as it was just a stop gap board!).

yeah i tried that, but all 4 debugging lights are still on...

Gonna get a new PSU -gonna need one when i upgrade anyway - and see if that fixes it.

thanks for the reply though fella.

Dave

I don't own DFi Lanparty but I have experienced this exact problem on 3 seperate occassions with 3 different boards, all socket 939 boards.

On each occassion it was caused by my soundcard, a Soundblaster Audigy.

The first time was on an ASUS board and it had crept out the slot and on the two other occassions it was on MSI boards and the card had died.

You did'nt mention if you had a sound card.

The symptoms were exaclty the same. everything lit up, fans turning but no beeps and just hung there with a black screen.

Just a thought
