Ever since I installed 290 my bios is all squashed and artifacted and in 4:3. I've updated bios and various drivers swapped pci slot to no avail. R9290 tri x with Asus z97 pro WiFi ac

Any input ?

I do use a TV as my main monitor yes, (60hz) but this is the first time ive had this problem, i had no issues on my 460

Are you using displayport?

I have often experienced things like this with Amd. It's normally on displayport I get these types of issue.

For example, currently, if I try get into bios on a on a reboot, I can see the res is not right, and then end up with black screen. Cold boot and can get into and see bios just fine.

And issues like this have been going on for years for me with Amd. Bless em.

How is the TV connected? I had a similar issue on my 7850. I had a TV plugged in via HDMI and a monitor via DVI, and the bios displays in an odd resolution, so much so that it displays incorrectly on both screens.

It turns out my card auto defaults to the HDMI output, and the TV is unable to display the bios at any sort of useful resolution. By unplugging the HDMI the DVI then outputs the correct resolution to my monitor. Obviously this means anytime I need to use the bios I have to unplug the HDMI.

Amd at it again it seems this is the first time I've used the company after a decade of nvidia, it's little niggles like this I've never encountered, I even encountered a massive cursor last night which I'm told is exclusive to amd ha. Yeah hdmi it's connected by, looks all smashed up and cramped but I can make out what stuff says non the less

Tbh it's not amd fault your TV have hard time displaying the low resolution. At the end of the day, the TV isn't ment for displaying a bios it's a TV.
You should be using a monitor.

In time I will :)

I Simply can't afford one at the moment just spent 1100 on my current setup but it is on my list. That being said, I had zero issues with the bios on the 460 the only thing I can think of is the bios on the 460 was legacy the bios on the 290 is uefi

It's a known Ati/Intel issue with some tv's usually 50hz if you live in the Uk/Europe. Did you get the tv imported from the Usa as their tv's are 60hz?

Nvidia cards strangely enough get around this problem concerning the screen resolution being too low for the 3d/uefi bios.

Are you in full Uefi mode for graphics card and hard drive as I get the squashed screen in full Uefi mode but a blank screen in legacy mode but as yours is a 60hz tv it might work differently.

Edit: you might be saying you use your tv at 60hz in windows but if it's a 50hz tv made in the UK it will default to 50hz in the bios and allow 50hz/60hz in windows.

Do you know anyone that you can borrow a monitor and cable from? If you don't want to get a monitor for the time being, that is another option.
