Just re-installed xp and have been busy updating and installing per usual, however watching any video whether it be a file saved on my hard drive or streamed from the internet results in a sort of dull - only just colour look. Opening files in VLC or WMP doesnt make any difference either. I dont really understand what is wrong. I have installed new graphics drivers and images and games display fine. Any help much appreciated.

Try this

Color correction default profile causes whited out video playback.

To fix, select All instead of Desktop or Overlay and make a change, then
click Restore Defaults. The whacked out gamma is gone. Even though
the overlay was only affected, the problem is not in the Overlay
controls

but this was for a very old Nvidia bug, which I hope they should have sorted by now!

Nope that didnt work, is it worth me installing different graphics drivers? Will that be the source of the problem? I just find it wierd that everything else displays fine apart from videos

Dont worry now, problem sorted. Apparently default settings for these drivers are set such that saturation is set to 0% for video playback. Now I just need to play with the settings to get them perfect. Thanks for all the help anyway :)

P.S how do you change the nvidia settings page to the old school view instead of the whole page?
