Hi all.

Total car novice here. Ive bought my wife a 65 plate 1 Series for her 40th birthday and its a canny little car. Drives really well and is low in miles 50K. My only issue is that there is quite a bit of vibration through the gear stick when the car is either at idle or in motion. Ive done a quick google nothing at all intensive and ive seen that this can be normal for rear wheel drive cars. However im unsure so I thought I would ask you fine people for advice.

Ive never had a rear wheel drive car before so ive never had experience of this issue. Is it a problem that I need to be getting checked out or is it ok?

Thanks

My wife's is a 62 plate, 3 series, it does vibrate. Is not excessive and it doesn't bother me, but you can see the wobble.

Got it 3 years ago and it had only done 49k it's now on 60k so I think it's normal

Smaller engine diesels have a hell of a lot of vibration, which is why the dual mass flywheel was made to try and dampen it and keep the gearbox from being damaged, so it is most likely just normal vibration.

If it is enough to vibrate or shake your hand, and is worse while driving, then clutch/flywheel most likely needs replacing.
