I am moving into a new place soon and it only seems to have a connection for the internet in one room, its not the room for my PC. Is there anyway of connecting up a wireless device to stream the internet to my pc or would it just be better for me to pay an engineer to fit a new socket in my intended pc room? Or maybe I should just buy a big unsightly ethernet cable?

I'm assuming you are talking about ADSL and already have a modem with ethernet connection, in which case have a look here for wireless options. Depending on your budget and the hardware you already have I'm sure we can narrow down your choices.

The idea's much the same as with ADSL - connect a wireless router to the cable modem and off you go.
Though if you're considering 10Mbps or 20Mbps or there's much distance (or many walls) between the router and where you are, you might want to consider either running a cable from the router or getting the modem moved.

Good advice. I've just had to switch over to using wireless temporarily, and whilst I have an excellent signal connecting at 54Mbps, I still struggle to max out my 10Mbit connection (using usenet, if connected via cable maxes out, via wireless in same situation, doesn't). Granted, whilst it's just me connected like right now, I can get between 8/900KB~1.07MBps it's annoyingly inconsistent. Throw in one or more wireless clients and I struggle to get that. More like 600KBps.

Have you though of getting one of the newer Pre-N routers/adaptors or a Mimo based setup?
Would be faster/more consistant. :).
