The trouble with a regular wi-fi booster is that you have to place it half way between the dead spot and your existing wi-fi. Too far one way and it doesn't provide the coverage where you want. Too far the other and it doesn't reach back to the router for a reliable boost. It's fine for distances up to a certain point.
Because of the age and layout of my house I had better results with something generally marketed as a Powerline wifi extender, specifically a TP-Link 500mpbs kit. Regular power line adapter near the router and then a fancy one in the dead spot that provides a wireless access point as well as an ethernet port. Can be had as a kit for about £40
