Can someone help ?

Thanks,

Uninstall that belkin software and only leave on windows sp2 wirless zero configuration for xp. If your belkin card isnt installed after you uninstalled the software then just install the drivers for the card.

The laptop doesnt have SP2 on it im affraid, just wondering if this kinda thing is common, what can cause it (eg: neighbours cordless phone etc)

Has anyone else experienced it before?

Thanks,

Rikki

Not buying Belkin would have been a good start..

Anyway, can you not shove SP2 on the machine? The zero config utility does seem a fair bit better than most manufacturer software I've seen.

Cordless phones shouldn't cause any problems, they work on a different frequency (1.9 GHz in Europe). A US DECT phone could as they also work on 2.4GHz though.

You could also try to reposition the router or maybe get replacement antennas.

Was the only thing I could get my hands on at the time :(

Cant put SP2 on it for a number of reasons, one of which being the VLK in use.

The router is sitting 2ft from the laptop to make sure :(

I had the same problem with a friends belkin wireless card. Removed the software and left windows deal with the wireless connection and it is now fine.

go to the start bar / run

type in services.msc

wait for the services menu to load

scroll down to the bottom where you will notice "Wireless Zero Configuration"

double click

press stop - wait for the service to stop

change the startup type to 'disabled'

reboot.

let the belkin handle the wireless mode.. chances are the reason for the disconnect / reconnecting is that the windows and the belkin software are fighting against each other to connect you to your wireless network.

Had a mess around with all that and it didnt help so I went into my routers control panel and disabled WPA and turned on WEP instead. Then things seemed to be better and the laptop would stay connected but I cant seem to get the mofo to actually hook up to my workgroup now :(

I hate networks!

PS: Thanks for your suggestions, they are very much apprecaited.

Just wondering what laptop you have there mate.

We have Toshiba SP2100's at work with Belkin cards and they are doing exactly the same thing!! Except they basically connect at 11mbps. They work fine on Toshiba SPA10 with full speed.

I've tried numerous SP2100 laptops with the same Belkin card and no joy!! They are just dreadfully slow, drop out all the time or both!

Only thing i can think of now is the laptop doesnt like these cards at all.

well that too lol.

But we have about 70 laptops so far with Belkin cards in them. The range is fine, they are all stable apart from this one model of tosh's. :(
