Hey guys, just grabbed a quest 3 and looking at doing pc vr with it. Got a basic virgin media hub5 atm and have been looking at getting the wifi better for the headset.

Is it worth going all out on a router, and if so which one? or is it beneficial to try a prismxr out first?

Tbh I'd try it with your existing router first, it'll be 5 GHz, put your Q3 on it and nothing else (edit: I mean nothing else on the 5GHz network, put anything else on 2.4GHz, your router should be able to operate both bands simultaenously), try to play near your router, have a 1+GB ethernet cable to your router from your pc. I have a bog standard sky router with this setup and it's fine, tried a 6E router earlier in the year and was no different. If your 5GHz network is not congested you could be ok.

If i try pcvr over the current hub 5 it says its too slow to have a good experience. Pretty low resolution and cuts in and out. I wasn't expecting much from a freebie router but was hoping for a bit better than that.

Ah right ok, did you have it setup as I suggested?

interested.

Felt like I jumped on to a prismxr puppis without thinking through.

Seems to work a dream but for £60 still in the sale not sure why i didn’t just buy a dedicated router.

Still works and works well.. lets see how long it lasts.

My ISP gave me a FRITZ!Box 7530 AX as my free router.

Wifi 6 only, and even though I'm less than 3 metres away from it, still claims it's not a full signal strength. But still seems to work very nicely. Been playing I Expect you to Die and Half Life Alyx through SteamVR with no issues.

I bought a 6E router, mainly because there seems to be some sort of issue with the Quest Pro controllers and various WiFi setups so I wanted to minimise interference.

The main advantages of a 6E router is a) it is generally uncongested so easier to get a good signal and b) you can run Airlink at a far higher bitrate giving image quality close to a wired connection.
