Just taken receipt of a new ASUS X401A, installed critical windows updates (and no other software other than Chrome) and bang - wifi is kaput. Frankly beyond me, I've tried the Win 8 diagnostics etc, but I am simply out of ideas.

Running windows 8 - an OS I am not familiar with - Currently connected by ethernet, however wireless is not working. Other devices on the network are not reporting connectivity problems so it is definitely issue with notebook.

Network is seen by the ASUS, attempting to join returns "Windows 8 can't connect to this network" - there is a persistent asterisk beside the wifi signal icon. No idea what that means.

Any thoughts very much appreciated!

What have you tried so far?
Does it have 3rd party connection software?

What I'd so..
Tell it to 'forget' the network, rejoin.

Update the wifi drivers
