Hi Guys, (Not sure if this was the correct section)

My Dad's had this issue for a while now where his wifi keeps disconnecting, I've Googled around and tried lots of solutions but to no avail the problem keeps persisting.

We've now resulted in formatting the computer and reinstalling but alas the problem is still persisting, has anyone had any similar issues or know of any fixes?

Cheers guys :)

Depending on the chipsets used in the device and the router, they could be conflicting, causing either or unit to drop the connection. This was a problem I encountered with a wireless card and particular atheros chipset in a Linux box.

What is the router and what is the device?

Its the newest version of the BT HomeHub iirc and a 13" MBP 2011 version I think.

Edit: Just to mention as I forgot in the first post, I have a 15" MBP and have no issues and every other device connected has been fine, just seems to be my Dad's that's having issues.

They both seem to use Broadcom chipsets. I have never experienced conflicts between Broadcom chipsets. It is probably just a case of the Home Hub being set on a flaky channel. Have him go into the Home Hub and change the channel from whatever the default is. Start from the first channel and if it works, it works. And if not, just keep trying the next channel again and again until he finds one with better stability.

Edit: Here's a thread on the newer HH; https://community.bt.com/t5/Other-B...th-is-wrong-with-home-hub-5-wifi/td-p/1081588

Thanks for the reply, just changed the channel and so far its connected, so fingers crossed it stays connected, if not I'll try the other channels.

Have you tried setting a static IP address to each device that connects to his WiFi. I've got a netgear router but have had similar issues in the past it losing connection.

A static IP won't do much. In fact it's easier to end up with IP clashes if you don't keep track of what IP you're assigning to which device. DHCP resolves that headache and there's really no need for a static in a home network unless you have some very specific requirement like for gaming or torrents were you need to open a particular port or port range. The only device on my network with a static IP is my NAS. Since it's easier to remember the address and torrents.

You're getting interference from somewhere. Something on some channel is causing the drop.

Thank you for this, just running the diagnostics now.
