Wifi Dongle recommendations?

Hello all,

We've just had a new net connection put into the house (70~ mb upto 500mb, huzzah!)

Unfortunately my step-stons PC simply won't find the new network (ASUS PCE-N15 11n). I've tried all the standard tinkering to get his current PCI-E card to find it with no luck.
He'll only be sat about 2 metres away on the other side of the wall where a node is currently setup.

Can anyone recommend a reliable USB dongle/pci-express card that will do the trick? There's about 1000 of them on the rainforest, any suggestions welcome!

If you were to get one, I've used this one recently:

For an old laptop that didn't have WiFi 6 / 6E. Had no problems with it. That was on Windows 11 as well.

Hope that helps.

Hi Avalon,

Agreed, bit the bullet and ran a cable. It's a bit unsightly but is a means to an end.

The little git is getting the full 500mb, even over an extender! :-D I'm getting 420 max from the same node, cabled in also. I'm sure there is a perfectly valid reason for it, but a problem for another day!

Really appreciate the help Firegod, saved in my bookmarks in the event the misses gets sick of the cable! :-D

I’m a big fan of running cables wherever possible, it has occasionally been a source of regret, one of the bungalow walls I did a while back was a foot thick and stone which wasn’t fun, but in general it’s going to give you the fastest, lowest latency and most reliable result for the least cost.
