Hi all, ive been on virgins 100mb connection for some time now and only getting 45-47mb connection when using wireless dongle connected to my desktop but 95-104mb when connected via Ethernet.

So i have been searching recently for guides to getting the the most speed from my dongle but the best i have gotten so for is 55mb

My dongle is a High Gain TP-LINK TLWN772N 150mbps

Would anyone be able to help me with setting up my router settings to get the fastest connection possible as i don't have an Ethernet long enough ATM to use for wired connection.

Greatly appreciate any help

You're basically getting the best you can expect from that adapter. For a variety of reasons you'll only usually achieve about a third of the headline speed.

I believe that the Virgin Superhub supports 300Mbit/s on both 2.4GHz and 5GHz which should get you much nearer. You'll obviously need a new wireless adapter to use it.

You could consider Powerline adapters instead (the 500/600 AV variety).

If running an Ethernet cable is possible just get one. It'll be the cheapest option and is a guaranteed fix.

I have the superhub2 what speeds can i expect from the powerline adapter?

Is there no settings i can use in the router i can change to set it up to work better with wireless connections?

A setting on the router isn't going to change a 150Mbit/s wireless dongle into a 300Mbit/s wireless dongle. If that's what you want you'll need to buy one.

The throughput of Powerline adapters varies a lot between different properties, and there's no way of telling how well they will work until you try them. With modern 500 Mbit/s adapters you've got a chance of seeing the full 100Mbit/s, but it'll probably be less.

The only absolutely guaranteed way of getting the full 100Mbit/s is with a network cable.
