I notice my WiFi looses connection a lot.
Plusnet hub one

I will to disable the WiFi and buy something more realible, unfortunately I'm on a budget though £50ish, but happy to buy used.

I download a lot and also game, as well as my son.

From reading I need a access point, is there that anything you can recommend?

Thank you :)

Unfortunately not. I'd maybe replace your router with a new or even second hand Asus router. Are you on fibre or regular ADSL?

Also, which devices are dropping out? Have you tried firmware upgrade, different channels, trying only 2g etc?

RT-N66U was rock solid for me for years, I'm unaware if there's any newer/better spec'd ones now as I've moved to Ubiquiti kit.

Haven't heard bad things about the TP Link Archer series but couldn't comment on that. I'd probably want to spend a bit more otherwise I don't think you're upgrading.

Can you run an ethernet cable to anywhere near where the drop outs occur? If so then I'd suggest route a cable as close to where you can and then hang a second hand router with a custom open source firmware off it. Set it to access point mode and you've extended the reach of your wifi. The problem here may or may not be solved by a new router in the same location. It's position however is likely to definitely have some bearing so putting an AP closer to the black spots will certainly have a positive effect

Ubiquiti AP-AC-Lite

It's worth the extra ££. It comes with a PoE injector too, so you can place the AP exactly where you want and not have to worry about a power socket near that location, you just run a network cable to it.

If you're patient nightrider1470 you can get an RT-N66U/RT-AC66U/RT-AC56U etc. for around £50 used.

I got an AC66U for £52+p&p last month. Good quality devices.

Edit: RT-AC56U are consistently £30-50.
