morning chaps,

I have a few laptops here (all same model and make) that no matter what i do with them, I can't get them to work on my wireless network.

I have other laptops working on the network so it not that.

I've done a fresh install with windows 7 and installed the drivers from the manufacture's site but still i get the same error.

Has anyone seen this before and know of a way to resolve it?

It seems weird as I get an IP address and can ping things locally to me, but HTTP traffic seems to be blocked. (and no the firewall isn't on....)

Thanks in advance :)

yeah.

it's a work network with 8 AP's and a controller.

I currently have over 100 laptops connected to the wireless network spread over 3 ssid so i know the network is working.

it must either be the N part of my network or the clients.

can i disable n and only run G?

(maybe this should have been in the networking section....)

cheers anyways :)

Can you check the following:
  • When you get an IP ios a gateway specified?
  • Can you ping Google?
  • Can you telnet Google on port 80?
  • Are you pinging using a domain name or IP? Do both.

1 - yes. i get all details, ip, gateway, dns and dhcp servers
2 - yes, i can ping everything, internal servers and external sites
3 - no. times out
4 - yes. all pings work ok.

It's like there is something blocking http content. I've also just noticed that even thou i can ping my file server I can't map a drive to a share on it.

very odd. :(

Run a tracert to Google and see what hops it's taking. Compare this to a machine that can see Google.

This sounds like an infrastructure issue and not related to the host.

a tracert show the hops leaving my network hitting my remote office, BT's cloud and then landing on google.

This is as expected so no fault there.

It's odd that over 100 other laptops are connected without issue.

Can I force the N rated adaptor to use G and rule out any N issues?

Have you looked in the device manager for an option?

network

Hi,

I am bit of a novice where networking is involved, but could it be you have exceeded the max number of connections/clients allowed on the network, maybe you can up the number ofconnections in the server/router, our maybe the mac address of the new addition to the network requires adding to the router/ap settings, (just a stab in the dark, but i have seen simular settings in my router)

hum, just re-flashed one of the offending laptops with a fresh image.

Turns out I'm getting the same error on my LAN connection now.

Muct be a domain issue.

I'm going to delete the computer account from AD and reflash.

See where that gets me..

yep, all firewalls disabled and the image I'm using is one of a machine already on the domain So I'm having to finish flashing, then remove the cable, remove from domain, plug cable back in and rejoin.

I'm using a install disc now and I've removed the AD accounts, so fingers crossed.

have you had these laptops connected to any other wireless network and been able to browse the net?

because it is as work network, do all of the other laptops have their MAC Assigned to a certain IP Address on the router?

ok, a bit more information for you all,

I've ruled out N as the issue. (I got another N rated Laptop out and connected it ok, without any issues)

We don't do nay Mac address filtering or DHCP reservations of these machines, so IP's are all DHCP assigned. which is working ok.

I've just out a fresh copy of win7 on, I'm going to download the wireless drivers and join to the domain. will post back in 10.

so it works before you join the domain then?

right.

it seems that it is now working (both before and after joining the domain). However the wireless connection is now so slow that it unusable. If I go to bbc.co.uk/news and click on a story, I get the title bar change in IE but the rest of the page fails to load.

I have anther laptop (different make and model) that is connected to the same wireless network and that is running fine. so my problem is the device it's self.

What can cause such a slow internet browsing? ping times between the two different laptops to bbc.co.uk are the same, which suggests that the wireless network is again functioning correctly.

I'm going to start doing updates on it as they need doing and see it if helps.

in the mean time, any suggestions?
