Wifi extender or replace HH5?

Hi there,

I am currently using a BT Home Hub 5 (HH5) at home on unlimited fibre. The HH5 is at the front of the house and as you reach the back of the house, thanks to walls etc the wifi signal is pretty poor, I am looking for a solution to that problem.

I was wondering about a wireless extender and was looking at the Netgear Nighthawk AC1900. I then realised I could replace the HH5 itself and perhaps increase wifi coverage, so I began looking at the Netgear R7500 AC2350 Router but then realised I would need to get a modem also. Also, if the R7500, when installed, doesn't offer better wifi coverage I would be back at square 1. So I feel I was going around in circles a bit.

So, should I buy a wifi extender, replace the router (with the aim that it would do wifi better than the HH5) or do something else?

Thanks for help.

You should be able to use the HH5 in modem mode and then just stick an Ethernet cable between the HH5 and any new router you get. Then stick the router in the middle of the house. If you want to go that way.

Thanks for the reply. Putting a cable from the HH5 to a modem in the middle of the house will be problematic. Also, I didn't think you could use the HH5 to a modem.
