been having networking isses and on my laptop ive noticed that the wifi works fine for the internet, runs more or less full speed but for lan access its wonky. the upload on lan usage is fine, runs about 30 or 40mbit but dowloading its rubbish, its bounces between almost nothing and about 10mbit down.

the router is a netgear wndr4500 running ddwrt and im using 5gh (though same issue on 2.4) and the laptop is the only device that is connected via 5ghz. the lan card in laptop is an intel 6230 i think.

short of buying a new router can anyone help?

How are you testing this?

by copying a file from one comp to the other, by using lanspeedtest and by netspeedmonitor to measure total throughput though the connection. the internet speed ive tested just using plain old speedtest.net.

as its just the download and only from lan access im sure its the router doing some QoS thing but ive tried playinig abuot with any setting i think could make a difference and nope, wifi uploads fine but downloads are horribly slow.

For test purposes you could create an ad hoc peer-to-peer network between the devices. That'd give you a wireless connection that doesn't involve the router at all.
