As a small business, we operate from a converted farm. All the office PC`s are in a converted building at the far end of a yard, and connected to a wired network.
The router (Netgear 834G) is positioned in the farmhouse at the other end of the yard, and a network cable carries the internet into the office, and into an 8 port switch, which the 4 PC`s are connected to. No problems there.
Now, the farmhouse is a very old brick/stone building, so we positioned the router at the top of an outbuilding, just outside the house. We did this to improve the wireless range in the house, as we had minimal need for it in the office. It has worked OK, but the WiFi signal is often lost/slow/intermittant.
My boss is has been complaining about a slow and flaky wireless signal, even in the house, for a while. He has asked me to sort it. We rarely see him now, as he works from the house. I would like to keep it that way
He wants me to purchase a wireless signal booster, but I have never used one, and I have my doubts about its effectiveness. Would the money be better spent on a more modern "N" router?
Any help would be appreciated.
