WiFi Hotspot detector?

ok, i have n95, if i turn wifi on i only see the wifi's which i have profiles for, i then have to go in and select seach for wlan to see the others?

I have never played with a N95 before, but my standby screen looks like this:

Select the WLAN scanning off option and turn it on and hey presto its working. As I say its a standard feature on my N82.

Yeah my N95 standby is the same, but when yo uchange it to searhc, it says wifi found and you go into the menu to browse them (or it connects to your default one which is the client wireless here, unfiltered :D

mine looks the same as that, however it only shows me access points for which i have inputted the details for, if i want to see all access points i need to select then find wlan

Interesting to know Mobiles have Wifi now.

Does that mean you can surf and send emails for free?

If you can get near a hotspot, yup :)

I made sure that my new phone had wifi. Couldn't have lived without it....or so i thought. Turns out that if I'm near a hotspot I'm often near a PC :p

Yes to a degree. As well as WiFi access, O2 (and the others) do an unlimited usage web bolt on via 3G for £7.50 per month meaning you can do as you please, surf youtube etc and the new phones make it surfing the web easy and no hassle. You can set up the phone to send and retireve emails from whatever account. My ntlworld account took all of 30 secs to set up.

Regarding the WLAN scanner on the N82, mine will show up any new wireless netowrk found on the standby screen, highlight and select the option and it will bring up a list of all the networks its found and the signal strength and protection.

Hmmm the Nokia N82 does sound interesting, I'm still due an upgrade from my N70. . .

Will have to start trawling through the Nokia site looking to see which phones offers Wifi Functions, seems silly spending £40 on that Canary device above when I could put that money towards a new phone, although the pocket pc vs smartphone approach needs some more research . . . .

I liked my N95 and it's free on most contracts these days but if you're planning on spending most of your time browsing I'd try and get a phone with a large screen (and also touchscreen/stylus combo). One of the older o2 XDA phones might be a good choice.
