Hi all,

I have a annoying issue.. i have upgraded to a new gaming system but the wifi speed is terrible in my upstairs gaming room  here are the speeds before and after

My old HP envy - solid 45mb+
New gaming PC - 15/25mb

I have a wifi card and have attached the aerial and no amount of changing where its pointing to seems to change anything. Is there a better quality wifi adapter i can get? Or should i go and buy a wifi extender and have that plugged in beside the pc ( would this even help the wifi/download speed )

Thanks for any advice in advance im watching GTA IV download its 62GB very slowly :(

If at all possible run a cable.

If not consider Powerline adapters (network over the mains wiring). OcUK's range is here.

If you want to try a different wireless adapter what are you using at the moment? Also what type of router is is connecting to?

Thanks for the speedy reply! im connecting to a sky router and i looked in system and its listed simply as "Ralink 802.11n wireless LAN card"

If i have the PC downstairs i get far better speed so i guess its maybe just a weak card?

That's a bit vague. Is it on-board, an internal plug in card or a USB dongle?

Is it a PC you built or something bought complete? (don't forget about not mentioning OcUK's competitors).

If you get a new adapter would you want an internal card or a something connected via USB?

How much are you willing to spend?

I'd still suggest Powerline adapters as a better option, but they can sometimes have problems as well.

Its a actual plug in card and it was prebult but i added a large SSD hardrive ( from OC ) but i have ordered the adapter you suggested as the reviews seemed pretty positive and it seems like it should be a easy fix

will report back tomorrow when i find out :p

Update!

Got the plugs delivered today and could not have been easier now getting speeds around 40MB which is far better but still not the 45-50mb i got with the old HP envy

But nevermind i wont be download 60GB games that often and at least the speed is now now consistent

thanks for the help :)
