Hello,

My Dad recently purchased BT Infinity, which also grants it's customers free access to BT Wifi.

We have been making use of the wifi service at my Mum's house. I have an almost flawless wifi connection in my bedroom, using my TP link wireless adapter plugged into my desktop PC. It's even stable enough to play online games.
My Sister is able to use her laptop with few interruptions, as well.

I purchased my Mum a laptop so she could use the wifi network too, but unfortunately there have been problems. For whatever reason, her connection frequently drops and a message saying "limited access" appears. This can be corrected by right clicking on the network icon and running troubleshoot. However, that is inconvenient, and if neither me nor my sister are having such problems, she shouldn't be either.

Both me and my sister have Windows 7, whilst my Mum's new laptop is Windows 8, if that might be relevant.

Other than that, i have no idea what to do. Other than buying a wifi aerial adapter, but that might not do much if the problem is something to do with the software(Windows 8) or if it something hardware related.

I'm stuck right now, and would really like some advice on what to do next.

Thanks.

Try your adapter in her laptop if it's USB.
My adapter, a TP-Link N600, seems to work in that it receives the wifi signal, however the actual driver cannot be installed because it is not compatible with Windows 8. When i check the details for the network, it seems that it is still using the default wireless card via the adapter.

I'm wondering if i should try a Windows 8 compatible adapter, and when i say "compatible" i mean that the adapter was built with Windows 8 in mind, and the related software is compatible.

I would first try changing the Wireless channel on the router, it sounds like this could be getting interfered with and the adapter in the new computer may not like the current frequency. ;)
