Wifi keeps dropping connection - Driving me insane

Hi all,

I've got an ibm x31 laptop and i've just done a fresh install of XP on it and i'm having wireless connection issues.

It uses a Intel 1100/B wireless mini pci card. My laptop connects and detects networks fine but the problem is once i've connected to a laptop it will keep on dropping the connection. This occurs when downloading a file or just browsing the internet (seems to be more prone to doing it when downloading).

So it says its connected and ten minutes pass and then the little Windows icon says its disconnected and then it says its reconnected.

It does it all by itself - i don't need to keep reconnecting. I've got the latest firmware on my netgear router. I really can't understand what it is - apart from drivers or some sort of software issue.

I've looked online and i've set the card to use maximum power etc. but it still happens.

Any thoughts or ideas would be great.

Thanks!

Could be a conflict with the card and the router. Are you using WPA security? Try WEP or even none at all and see if it still drops off. Also, try another hotspot and see if it still does it.

Atm i'm using WEP - i've taken wep off and left it with nothing - i'll try downloading a game demo or something to see how it goes.

Will report back soon!

Thanks

Edit:
Took off security and it still disconnected.

And tried WPA - still having the same issue! Do you think that reinstalling XP would help in any way?

Edit 2:
I googled the pci card and the netgear router model number and only one case came up (which wasn't the same as mine) and they solved their problem by turning on the wireless with the button on the laptop.

Have you got the latest driver from Intel? If you have, just try uninstalling and reinstalling from the device manager.

Yeah the latest one from the Intel website. Thanks, tried that.

uusally you can use the intel driver adn either the intel connection utility or the windows zero configuration utility.

Its worth trying a driver update and checking out if the intel utility or the windows version gives more reliable results.

I've tried the pro set application to manage the connection and i thought it worked but it failed!! ><

Latest driver and i tried old school drivers!

I think that i'm going to buy an ibm w/less thing just to see if it works! This is giving me so much grief!
