Wifi Kettle SSID Hack

Wow didn't think it would give up your wifi key in plain text. Guess these types of device would be better on a guest wifi connection, not that I need a wifi kettle.

Who'd have thought that a gimmick feature added to an incredibly average kettle by a company that doesn't really have a clue what they are doing would pose a security risk to the contents of your home network?

Firewalls and multiple SSIDs are going to be almost a requirement of any household wanting to keep the data on their PCs safe as the amount of 'smart' devices increases.

Certainly makes you think. I have an internet radio which I hope can't be spoofed like this. TV's thankfully connect to Ethernet but it's quite common for people to use wifi for these. Also, wonder how these electric smart meters will connect that are about to become ever more prevalent as more utilities push towards country wide rollouts. There's a lot of stuff that has wide spread reach already before getting into the somewhat more daft items of IoT. Trouble is you can't even whitelist MAC addresses because it gave that up too.
