So, signed up with ee fibre a few weeks ago (coming from normal ADSL from another provider). Order went through no probs. Activation day was supposed to be 17th August - well that's been and gone. Phoned customer support on 18th to be told openreach would be visiting our street cabinet on the Sunday to sort out some faulty wires and that we would call me with an update on Monday. Well either I missed the call or they didn't call. Anyway, I called ee today to find out what's going on. They now confirm that there is no further capacity for fibre at my cabinet. Unbelievable and shocking. So now been without internet for a week and only now do they tell me (after I had to call them twice) that they have no idea when I'll get connected.

I'm considering cancelling the whole thing now if this is the level of customer service ee provide. I can switch to their ADSL service, but still have to wait 10 days according to them. To be honest, I'd rather pull the plug on them completely after this. I know I won't get fibre with any other provider if the cabinet is full, so will just have to be ADSL. I'll probably not get the £125 quidco cashback either as they'll want to see payments being made to ee, of course ee won't be charging me.

Another solution - my parents live about 100m away. What is the cheapest way I can share their broadband with me? I've got some high gain mesh antennas for 2.4GHz. What equipment will I need? I know pointing one of the mesh antennas at their house will pick up the WiFi signal, I just then need to repeat this on another WiFi network in my house to cover the PC and tablet.

Do you have line of sight to your parent's house? If so then a pair of Ubiquiti nanostations will effectively act like running an Ethernet cable between the houses.

Cheapest way I think is 2 Ubiquiti Nanostation Loco M5 off Amazon - £60 each

They require a little more networking knowledge than consumer kit, but there are plenty of guides and videos online.
