WIFI only goes up to 7meg

7MB/s * 8 = 56Mbps. 802.11g claims to do 54Mbps at best, so you're getting as much as you're going to get.

I think the guy means he's only getting up to 7Mbit out of his connection as his NTL connection is 10Meg...

I wish my wireless would work at better than 1MB/sec :(

OP - you should be able to max out your 10Mbit NTL connection, as like Tolien says it's good for upto 7MBytes (54Mbit), however, in my experience like yours, my wireless struggles to maintain a consistent 1MByte+ and is more like 700~900KByte/s.

That'd be right apart from the fact that he's got a 10mb line not a 10MB line.

Unless Virgin are suddenly running 100mbps lines.

He said he had a 10 millbit line? Didn't know VM did those either.

Your point would be all well and good except the OP didn't say it was from the internet (though from the post after mine, it looks likely).
Being clear in your posts (including using the right units) for the win.

Hmm does that mean my wireless will hinder my 16mb connnection :o

Depends what wireless you have.

It's quite simple really, if your wireless is the same or faster than your conection and you can get 100% signal strength then it should be fine.

to the OP, what speed is the wireless actually running at when you connect?

What's it like transferring a file between machines (ie without the internet connection involved)?
Have you got another wireless adaptor you could try?

Well the router is directly under my room (the same position in the living room heh) and I get good signal =)

Will be watching this closely as I have just upgraded to Virgin 10mb BB with the same router and also having the same issue.

Very annoying.

Just noticed the date of the last post *doh*
