I've currently got a virgin media superhub (lol) upstairs in my study which brings in my 100mb internet from there I've got a gigabit switch which my server and 2 PCs plug into. I've then ran a cat 6 cable through my house downstairs to my lounge dropped another switch on that to power my consoles tv receiver and other HiFi type bits, I've also dropped an old dir-615 on it as the WiFi on the superhub was super poor.

That old box serves my phones tablets and laptop non of which are top spec and old dell and a nexus 4 and 7. My problems are though that it just doesn't cut it doing a speed test on my tablets when lying in bed streaming YouTube or a film of the server is terrible the app returns around 5mbps down and while in bed may sound a long way the bedroom is directly above the lounge so we are talking 15 foot at most.

My first thoughts go to the old WiFi router its had its day while it can do .11n its only 300mb at most theres no 5ghz support which the nexus 4 supports and certainly no .11ac support for future devices.

Am I going to see any noticeable benefit swapping in a cheap ac router such as this

Which while still only supporting 300 on the 11n range does support dual band 5ghz and ac connectivity which has got to be better.

Alternativly if not is there anyway to breath life into the old dlink till I get devices that support the new tech
