A friend of mine has a D-Link DIR615 connected to her Virgin box or something. Either way, she can barely get any signal because the signal has to travel through quite a number of walls. I suggested buying an extender...but that is as far as my knowledge goes.

Any ideas on what to go for? Does the brand matter? I'm guessing it doesn't but I need to be certain. :)

I think that in order to use an extender the router must support WDS http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wireless_Distribution_System and I can't find anything to say that the DIR-615 does. The other thing you could try is a signal booster which replaces the aerial on the router, but again the aerial socket must be the right type or the booster will not fit. All in all not that simple really I'm afraid :(

Is mobility key, or do you just want to be able to connect in the other room? If the latter, I'd suggest you consider a homeplug setup.

What about a power over mains kit? They come wireless but are expensive, or just give her an old fashioned bit of CAT5 :D
