Hi,

I was just wondering what sort of range a wireless transmitter has? I live about 5 mins walk from a road in London which is a wifi hotzone and was wondering if I could use the service if I had a suitable wireless network card? The service is free and I believe the network uses 802.11g.

Thanks.

all depends on the hardware used to provide the hotspot and the card/antena you put in your PC. Your best bet is to get someone to try conecting from your house if it works bonus if not you'll be stuck paying for the net like threst of us!

With a YAG ariel you should be able to do it no problem depending what's between you and 5 minutes walk away, combine that with something like a Linksys WRT54GL and Tomato or DD-WRT and you can bump up the power to your wifi connection to a much higher level giving you significantly more range.
