I have Hyperoptic 100Mb internet and whilst my desktop machine get ~95mb/95mb as its cabled in to the router, the wifi speed is rubbish.

The current router is a the default hyperoptic one. Zte, model zxhn h298n. This - http://enterprise.zte.com.cn/en/pro...re/cpe/broadband/201404/t20140418_422573.html

Would i be able to connect an access point to this in a lan port for wifi whilst still using the lan for my desktop from the zte router?

If so, what is recommended thats capable of 95mb dow/95mb up?

Thanks, seems quite a lot at £76 but has loads of great reviews.

Is it just a case of connecting this to my existing router then hooking up my phone to the wifi given out by the Asus?

Stock Hyperoptic router, connected to an Asus RT-N56U. Laptop connected via WiFi to the N56U. I'm not in the same room as the N56U.

Thanks. Guess I dont need the N900 one then if the N600 is perfectly capable - Just for 'futureproofness' Interesting that you are getting a lot less ping than my wired connection. I suppose if I lived in London instead of Leeds I may get quicker, or you may live in Manchester

Guess you know what you need to be buying then... :p

For wifi yes, however i game on my desktop which is cabled in via lan.

It would be only for my iphone which i obviously do not use for gaming and the speed it gets currently it can stream 1080p video fine. I would mainly be getting it for steam home streaming using my tablet - but then its not guaranteed to work great either as the wifi card is not brilliant in in.

Also, if i decided to rip out the rj45 to my desktop and make it wifi, wouldnt i also need a better wifi dongle or internal network card that is better than the netgear n-300?

You wouldn't *need* a better one if the one you have works, but it'd be better to have a wifi adapter that could take advantage of the router and connection speed. The thing with going wifi over wired is it does add latency and for some games at a competitive level that's not ideal.
