Hi,

I'm moving house soon, and plan on having 2/3 access points for the front/back of the house plus upstairs.

At the moment I use 2 access points with differing SSID's and manually switching between them. I have tried using the same SSID in the past to let devices switch automatically but with not great results.

I will be using a TP Link VR900, but the rest of the network is still to be setup - although the Ubiquiti UAP AC Lite devices have caught my eye.

Is seamless handoff worth bothering with, or should I just stick with separate SSIDs like I have now?

Same SSIDs should work relatively well as long as you use different channels.

It's down to the device what AP it chooses.

I find apple kit works well and Windows based kit could be better.

The Ubiquiti gear does have a few settings that aid in a more seemless hand off and it works well for me.

If you're referring to Zero Hand off Ubiquiti now recommend you don't use it as it has quite a large effect on performance. They have however adopted some roaming functionalities into the 802.11 standards so devices can better without the need for a controller to decide so.

I used to run different APs and it was never great, then I had 2 Netgear routers the same and it was ok but still not great, now I have 2 x UAP LR's and it's perfect. I wouldn't use anything else now.
