Hey guys,

I'm running a D-Link DGL-4300 and decided to have a play around with the WiFi. There are 5 other networks I can see with my laptop - two on channel 1, two on channel 11 and one on channel 6.

I previously had the router on auto channel scan and I would get frequent drops when I was far from the router - which I guess was due to dynamic channel changing, as the strength seemed ok. If I set it to a static channel, what would be best (given the "competing" networks above). Afaik only 1, 6 and 11 do not overlap, but these are all taken :(

Also I have SuperG disabled at the moment - should I enable it? Again this would be an issue, as I understand that it bonds channels 1, 6 and 11 to give more throughput...

Cheers,

Suman

There are quite a few networks floating around here, the majority being on 1, 6 & 11. Having played with my wireless equipment a bit I've found 11 seems least prone to interference from other networks on the same channel.

You might find its the dynamic channel changing causing the drops. Might be worth sticking it on 1 or 11 and just seeing how it goes for a day or two.

You'll get less interference without SuperG because it is, as I'm sure you know, achieved by bonding two 802.11g channels. So the band in which interference is "felt" is doubled.

The reason it goes for 9 and 13 is because it selects the channels on which it finds the least background noise, but that doesn't always means that these will prove to be the most reliable channels.

Try putting it on 1 or 11 without SuperG and see how the reliability is. I know a faster connection is always a good thing, but it's useless if it keeps dropping out. Find a place where you can keep a connection without it dropping, and then look at sticking SuperG back on :)
