hi all

we have o2 broadband sorted now with new box the sent version 2. anyway the signal is not strong enough to reach all the house.

we have 4 floors here, i spoke to o2 and they said is on channel 8 and has the highest range.

is there anything i can do or buy so the wifi signal can reach the whole house approx 4-5 bars signal strength.

i have the pc which is near the o2 box in ground floor and 2 laptops one the above floors, the singal reaches the next floot up but dispears on the next 2.

i have a spare router netgear dg834, can that be used for something.

Run a Cat5 lead up a couple of floors and plug the DG834 in. Is the DG834 wireless? You mean DG834G?

hi gumbald

thanks for the reply, rather not use any cables, and yes its the dg834g wirless.

thanks

What version of the DG834G have you got? The latter versions I believe support WDS which would enable you to extend the wireless signal.

i think it says v2 or v9 i can confirm later

my bad lol

if the router supports WDS how can i set it up?

hi all

would the netgear do the job for me, set it up as repeater to increase signal to the other floors?

thanks

I don't think the v2 can act as a repeater.

Hang on, I'll check mine.

Can't find it, I'll have a look when I do.

You're not going to have much luck even with the some of the best commercial wireless routers to get a wireless signal to penetrate through many floors. Most are suited to buildings with a ground and first floor though it may go a bit further if the walls/floors are thin or made from less dense materials. You're best option is to buy a powerline adapter and then connect a wireless access point to it.

My DG834GT is in the loft and gives out a good signal round the full house.

Same here.I also use DG834GT with my BE broadband which i believe is now same as 02.The wireless range is good in my house. I did use a DG834G v3 before but kept on getting disconnected few times a day.

hey all

thanks for the suggestions

yes the antenna is detachable.

so basically m y best solution is this:

http://www.netgear.com/Products/PowerlineNetworking/PowerlineEthernetAdapters/HDX101.aspx

i basically cant have any wires going around the house, there is just no way of actullyn hiding them as the floor is not carpeted.

so my best bet is to wifi the entire house, now i dont know how complicated the elec wiring in the house using the above powerline solution. but i take it this will give wifi all over the house if all activated using the same wire loop in the house.

has anyone used this and had any luck with it.

thanks

ohh right so basically it just acts like a cat 5 extension using the wires and than i have to buy wifi routers to connect to these small boxes?

now ive got the netgear router DG834Gv2, so i can connect that up to enable the wifi singnal? is this easy to setup on the router and the router should be able to support this.

if thats the case i may need 2 routers?

i was just wandering would it not be cheap to get 2 of these for each floor to extended the signal rather than opting for the above solution:

any recommendations or opionion on this please?

My understanding of these powerline adapters is you plug 1 by the router ,connect a cat cable to it, then pug in 1 everywhere you require a network access(use another cat cable from each powerline to each pc)
but i might be wrong about this
Maybe get a directional antenna and aim it up to the other floors of your house where the pc`s are?

thanks for your reply

i was thinking if you can hook up the routers to them and extend the signal, i mean that should work. very expensive way of doing it thought.

there got to be an easiser cheaper way of implmenting this for the whole house.
