Hi everyone ,

I'm trying to find a solution to a customer who owns a B&B . they have WiFi in the main house through their own bt router but want to extend it into some holiday cottages adjacent to the house . I've experimented with netgear wifi extenders sat in the window of the house which works 90% of the time but its not great.

I was thinking of mounting an Arial into the loft or onto the house.

has anyone got any suggestions. i guess I need a strong signal that does about a 30m radius . The cottages are very old stone buildings !

Cheers Gas

The best bet would be point to point wifi, which feeds an internal access point (within each cottage). Not sure how this would work without multiple transmitters though :o

I had a similar issue - two buildings, with a distance of 25m from the main house's (building A) WiFi router to the next building (B). Tried a WiFi booster in A as close as possible to B, and the devices in B actually seemed to have worse connections than when connecting to the WiFi router itself.

But, placing the booster in B now gives solid coverage. So try putting the booster in the next building, and see if that helps.

I'm guessing the receiver (if that's the right term) in the booster is better than those of the various devices in B and thus gets a solid signal from the main router.

Run a cable and install a basic switch in one of the cottages. Then depending on size etc install an AP in the loft.
Thick stone walls are not good for wifi signals so you will need something robust. Also bear in mind that the guests will be on the same network as the owners.
Ideally get a 2nd phone line and have a network just for guests.
