WiFi works on lappy but not on desktop - help!

I'm probably being a knob but I've got a new desktop PC with one of those WiFi dongles in the back. It can see the access point on my D-link - identifies it etc - but nothing will connect to the net - Explorer, AVG, whatever. I know the router's working fine, cos I can do everything on the wireless Dell lappy.

I've checked all the usual crap but it's not having it. I'm sure it'll magically work of its own accord sometime in the future but I'd like to be in charge, for a change.

Anyone got any ideas? I'd rather not reset the router as it clearly works, not to mention it took me ages to get the port forwarding/NAT crap to work for my 360/PS3/Wii.

Thanks in advance.

EDIT: sorry for being unoriginal in terms of the problem. Couldn't see another thread with exactly the same woes...

has the desktop got an ip address (if using DHCP) and its the default gateway set as your routers IP?

Have you got MAC filtering on the router? If so have you added the MAC address of the desktop?

Does Vista actually say there is anything wrong with the connection? Try clicking repair.

Just some Idea's
