I saw my first advert for Wii on actual British telly last night :)

(ok, a bit of a non-post but I was excited about it)

Kind of abstract.

The Wiimote all on its own in the middle of the white screen, then I think the voiceover says something like "What is Wii" and then a hand picks it up and then you get the release date.

I think the price was shown at some point too.

Probably a good way to market it here as I'm not sure that American one with the two jap dudes would be as "cool" :D

There's a link at the GoNintendo.com site. Can't remember it exactly but saw it last night.

With the amount of media available on the net the mystery really is gone. They should just pull out the big guns and show people what it will look like on their telly.

None of this crap.

That's probably a bad idea IMHO.

If you show Joe Public (who isn't internet savvy) the graphics, they'll probably just dismiss it straight away. Sad but true.

Starting out with a bit of mystery and intregue is probably the best way to go.

That is one of the poorest ads I have ever seen. It tells you nothing at all about the product. I get that they are trying to build some hype but with the direction they are trying to take (mainstream) with the wii I would have thought they would want to show people using them as much as possible, especially now that we are only about 3 weeks away from the launch.
Then again if I was them I would have wii kiosks set up all over the place by now, as it seems like the sort of thing that people really need to play to understand.

That really was a naff advert, but I can understand the need for Nintendo to keep quiet about the graphics and push the fact that the console is a breath of fresh air.

Yes, I know it's not all about the graphics - but when you consider the competetion is showing very nice graphics, you have to let the user find out for themselves.

i saw it about 5 times last not on Sci-fi channel, nice to see Nintendo doing some advertising, have been impressed in the last few years with the amount of advertising that Nintendo has been doing esp with the DS adverts and sponsership on certain programs

It may not be the greatest advert made, but don't you thing the simplicity of it is simply that of the Wii? No bells, no whistles, nothing fancy, just something to simply 'pick-up'.

thats a very very clever advert

its short so is cheap but makes you wanna know more so you go find out more

clever of nintendo if you ask me

I personally thought it was pretty pants. Fair enough be minimal.. but dont be pants ! :D

This advert is just to get the viewers initial attention. I would imagine as we get closer to the UK release date, there will be different adverts giving away more information. They are trying to get people to ask questions and talk about it.

I would imagine the average Joe doesnt keep track of every next gen console thats comming out, so there are still going to be a lot of people that dont anything about it.

This is defiantly true and to me that suggests a bit of an issue with their marketing thus far. People have started christmas shopping and the majority of the mainstream public who Nintendo are aiming for probably have no idea what a Wii is, let alone if its something they should be looking at buying, despite the release being only weeks away.
