Been noticing the last frew days in baseball and bowling on wii sports hat i was getting little black specks flickering around the screen. Went into the photo viewer tonight and started a slideshow, on the countdown timer i snapped a pic and thers quite a lot of artifacting going on indicating a dodgy gpu or more likely the heatsink not making good enough contact causing it to overheat which produces the artifacting.

Just wondering what nintendos policy is on replacing these, do you have to contact them, then send it to them then have to wait a few days to get a replacement? How about wii points etc, i dont want to lose the 2 games i got via virtual consle. And my mii's will be gone as well. :(

Yeah gona have to, just hope its one of those replacements where they ship out a new wii and the courier takes the defective one in a box with him, hate waiting around for days. :(

Just checking a forum called wiichat, apparently for uk customers we have to send nintendo the wii at our own cost, wtf.

Copy and paste from uk forum member:

Finally got in touch with Nintendo this morning. The bloke didn't seem he had heard of my problem before (the noisy, vibrating disk drive) but he said to send it in, like you've been saying all along Nick Here in the UK Nintendo don't offer free shipping that I know know of, we have to do it at our own expence

Just wondering now if i returned it to the store i bought i would they replace it, the artifacts are pretty obvious to see but its a matter of proving that its a fault to the usual knuckle draging store gimp.

They'll not even check it, I've never had anything checked when I've returned it.

Thats poor that its at your cost. Especially as the failure rate for these must be low anyway. Take it back to the shop.

This is what I'd be doing and I doubt the shop will bother checking it to be honest.

Nintendo have always been good with me, when i sent my DS Lite off to get the hinge repaired they paid the postage. I'd argue my case that it's broken and you shouldn't have to pay to send back something which came off the production line with a fault.

Especially when retailers are quite often out of stock and so you might not be able to swap it where you bought it.

I've had similar problems.

Happens in all games and even in the weather channel globe. I imported from a store in Canada and they're taking care of returns and shipping of a new console :)

Do the two that are affected getting warm? I know some get warmer than others on the left (if vertical) and bottom (if horizontal) than others.

I thought the very same thing. It doesn't show any artefacts in Gamecube games and since the Wii is supposed to underclock to GC speeds in GC games it looks like my GPU is overcooked :(

Been trying to get through to nintendo for the last hour, engaged all the time. rang the store i bought i from and he siad they have none in stock and to contact nintendo who will pick it up, transfer my data to a new machine and return it. Funny, doesn't say that on nintendos service centre info.

When sending any products to the Nintendo Service Centre please always contact a representative on the above number before dispatching. Also please use, if possible, the original packaging, add a description of the defect and attach thereto a copy of your proof of purchase showing the date thereof.

Theres no friggin way in hell im paying for this thing to be sent to be replaced, just gonna have to call the store next week and try to get a replacement that way.

Mine did get pretty warm on the left side now that i think about it.

Well talked to the store again, told them about having to pay to get the console replaced, guy on the phone sounded pretty suprised, they took my name and contact info and wil call me when they get more in stock, just a matter of bringing just the console itself and swapping it over :)

Sorry to drag this up, but figured I'd do that instead of starting a new thread.

Mine's just gone. How did you go about sorting all your Miis and saves ?
