Happening sooner than you think!

Wii Media Center X is a free multimedia server developed by Red Kawa. It allows you to stream certain types of pictures, music, videos and files from your computer (where the server running) to your Nintendo Wii. It runs on most major operating systems including Windows, Mac OS X and Linux.

Features

Videos - Wii Media Center X lets you stream and watch videos in the Flash video format (FLV) on your Wii. You can download flash videos from many places on the internet or create your own using Wii Video 9.

Music - Wii Media Center X lets you playback MP3s on your Wii without the need of an SD card.

Pictures - Red Kawa Media Center lets you view pictures on your Wii without the need of an SD card.

Files - Wii Media Center X lets you browse your files located on your server.

there's no jumping of the cursor in that video, you can see its not running on a wii.

to stream music to the wii, you'd need a music player on the wii and since it doesnt support mp3 playback out of the box, somebody gonna have to hack it to pieces to do it. thats the real reason mp3 playback doesnt work, and if you watch the end of the video it says every vid has to be converted to flash for playback.

useless.

Its a start.

Look how the original xbox started and look at it now.

yes because the original xbox was already hacked which made getting additional codecs on there a lot easier. Cant do that with a wii right now, which is why its not going to go anywhere untill somebody cracks the console.

/anybody can convert videos and stream them. i wouldnt want to have to convert everything on the fly just to watch it on the wii. that's totally inapropriate

Correct me if im wrong but even if it gets hacked one day isnt it correct the system doesnt support Dolby Digital?

you can't play mp3's through the photo channel....

Yup you can, just make sure you have one photo on your SD card, load it with mp3s then go to the photo channel open a slideshow go to options then song options and select your mp3.

You can of course use Orb to make the Wii a 'media centre'. It even streamed my WMV-HD trailer of Alexander reasonably well lol. MP3s played fine too. Orb works in a similar way to this piece of software.
