Wii backwards compatibility models and questions

I'm shortly to buy a Wii to play a handful of games that don't use motion controls (I know, I know, that's the whole point of the Wii but I really just want to play a handful of classic games that are Wii exclusive and that don't have motion controls - Sonic Colours, New Super Mario Bros, Donkey Kong Returns) and am looking for one that is preferably backwardly compatible with Gamecube games so I can buy the Gamecube games Mgs Twin Snakes, Zelda Twilight Princess (with better controls) and a few others. I have a couple of questions...

1) Since Nintendo changed the recent batch of Wii's so they don't support backwards compatibility do they still have a controller port for the classic controller? Just curious about this just incase for whatever reason I have to settle for one that isn't backwards compatible, I still want to be able to use a proper pad.

2) I will most likely buy a used model if I cannot find a backwards compatible version new, and am also after a case mod for it if that becomes the case. I have seen a really nice case called the Chameleon which looks very smart and has neon lights inside which change colour. I've looked on Ebay, Amazon etc and cannot find anywhere that still sells this. Can anyone recommend a reliable place for me that sells stuff like this?

3) Lastly, I intend to buy all the Sonic games, Donkey Kong Returns, New Super Mario Bros, Red Steel and maybe the new Zelda game. I'm only interested in what I call "proper games". Anything else that you can recommend that isn't shovelware?

The classic controller plugs into the same port as the Nunchuck & Motion+ on Wii Remotes. It just needs to be supported in whatever title you play.

Xenoblade and some of the other JRPGs heading this way might be up your street Sonic. Also Metroid Prime (Collection if you can find it), Resi Evil and Metroid Other M.

Metroid other M looks good. I will definitely check that out, looks like my kind of game (2d sidescrolling platform/action). Thank you for your suggestion. I have managed to get a Black Wii this afternoon brand new, with the four Gamecube controller ports on it and is fully backwards compatible, so I'm pleased with that. Now I just need to get hold of some games for it. Anything else you can recommend? Muramasa Demon Blade looks good.

It's Rayman Origins for you my boy, Muramasa Demon Blade is also a top notch title for the Wii.

Don't forget Super Mario Galaxy 1 & 2 also.

I picked up Sonic and The Secret Rings today, plus the Gamecube version of Nfs Underground 1 from a local indie game store and also got Sonic Adventure 1, 2 and Sonic Mega Collection from the great bay of E so I'm well on my way now.

@ Billyboyd - is Super Mario Galaxy actually any good? I wasn't keen on Mario 64 (although admittedly I probably never gave it much of a chance back in its day). I did buy Mario Sunshine back when I had an actual Gamecube (before I stupidly sold it - regretting that now), and really couldn't get on with it. The problem have with Galaxy is that from what I've seen there doesn't seem to be any proper levels or worlds and just flying around in space running on small asteroids doesn't appeal to me, unless I am mistaken? Is the game really like that or is it much better than the videos I've seen? I really enjoyed Super Mario World, Yoshi's Island, Super Mario Kart, and Super Mario All Stars on the Snes and Super Mario Land 1 and 2 on the Gameboy but have always liked the 2d Mario games much more than I did the 3d ones. Can you really recommend Super Mario Galaxy or should I just stick to the Snes and Gameboy games?

Probably best to forget Galaxy 1 & 2 then Sonic, for the time being anyway. If you see them in the future for a few quid in a bargain bin then go for it and try and see for yourself, but with you not going a bundle on Mario 64 and Sunshine it's unlikely you would enjoy them.

Rayman Origins sounds like it will be right up your street though.
