I recently got a Wii and tried to get hold of the official Wii component cable. Couldn't find it anywhere in town so got a GAMEware one. Has anyone got one? I ask because the graphics on the Wii look really dated, I mean jaggy lines and some ghosting.

Is it the fact that the Wii is old or the third party component cable is pants? The cable is for 360 and PS2 too:

The component cable should make the image very sharp, you shouldn't really be seeing any ghosting. Did you update display settings in the Wii menu? With regards to dated graphics that just the Wii limited processing power* and the jaggies are the low resolution 480p compared to 720p or 1080p on the PS3 and 360.

*The Nintendo games, like Mario galaxy do look very good due to the cartoon type graphics Nintendo used since the n64.

Agree with Geffen, the cable made a significant improvement of image quality. Check the output options on the console.

It looks like it was the games. Playing New Mario Bros Wii and House of the Dead Overkill the graphics are dated. Put on Mario Galaxy and they look a lot better :) Still a few jagged lines though.

Hi

I have always noticed over the years that third party cables are not as good as there official counter parts
so might be worth trying to get hold of a official one if you can :p

You tend to see the official ones in big chain electric/computer shops. I used a Wii on a 42" LCD TV a couple of years ago. It looked terrible using composite and OK using component but nothing special. Having said that, If I was using a Wii, I'd have to get one.

In terms of 3rd party cables, one thing I remember when I was trying to find one, is that I kept seeing comments that cheap cables don't work with some arcade/store games. I don't understand why, but I saw that mentioned on a few sites.

It's a shame the Wii-u isn't cheaper with its HDMI port.
