Wii Graphics - meh.

About three weeks ago my work colleagues drew my attention to the Red Steel demos on YouTube. I can say I was blown away by the new control method and being a PC gamer at heart thought that finally FPS's will be a reality on a Home Console. Initially the lesser graphics did not bother me.

However since then I have looked closely at the games coming out and while I have never called my self a graphics whore, I appreciate pretty shiny things as much as the next man. So I can't help but feel a bit disapointed by what I see. I mean they look only slightly better than those on the PS2!

I know that Nintendo are going for the gameplay over graphics but how hard would it have been to up the ante just a bit and give things a nice sheen?

I mean Splinter cell Double agent is the same as the PS2 version!?!?!?! and Metroid has not moved on graphics wise - wtf? - would it have been so hard to shove and GPU with a bit more power in it?

I need convincing. I was definately gonna buy one but now I am not so sure. Please some one post an amazing screenie to change my mind. I want one but.......... meh......

Firstly I would suggest you read decent gaming websites with regards to their opinions on graphics. Secondly, what do you expect watching videos on YouTube? Not exactly high resolution...

The Wii's graphics aren't a massive step up from the Gamecube (which I think is quite significantly nicer looking than the PS2) or the Xbox, but there's quite a few nice touches in terms of lighting effects, draw distance, framerates etc.

I don't think they're that bad to be honest - although I'm still impressed by Resident Evil 4 and the Rogue Squadron games lol.

Watched some vids of Mario Sunshine and Metroid Prime 3 on a projector at work and I thought the graphics were lovely. Never PS3/X360 standard though.

Wii isn't meant to complete with 360 and PS3 and also because Nintendo decided to go down different route rather than going in all three graphic race. However, most Wii titles are looking impressive for such a tiny box and I'm happy with them.

am going to gamespy and gamespot for info. plus - yes I know the vids on youtube make it look impressive cause of the quality. I decided to get one from seeing them. It was when I looked at still screens that it starts to look - well..... I am still impressed, but well I don't know.

I will probably end up getting one as I don't have a massive high def TV to take advantage of the PS3 or 360 anyway.

Just don't know why they could have made it a little bit more than 'a step up from the Cube'.

The big aims for the Wii were low power consumption and later gameplay and the whole remote thing. Graphics were never a priority.
