wii graphics ?

If you don't have component cables for the Wii then you can't exactly complain about the jaggies. When the Wii is running at 480p in progressive scan this removes the jaggies with a clearer, sharper image. A good LCD TV also makes a difference in quality. Super Mario Galaxy on my Panasonic 26" TX-26LXD70 looks fantastic.

Wouldn't the composite cable be better at removing the jaggies due to it's poor quality imagie which gives you the effect of Anti-aliasing. On the other hand the sharp picture from the Component cable would show up graphical defects more clearly.

Aside from the above i think the graphics i've seen so far are perfectly adaquate and a step up from the PS2.

What's hardcore gaming?

The Wii is great. Gets played here far more than the Xbox 360. Who cares if it isn't 1080 or whatever. I don't notice the "bad graphics" as I am far too busy immersed in the gameplay.

Super Mario Galaxy looks sublime however.

Depends how you class it, that phrase has just worked its way into my textbook and i dont tend to over use it, i recognise hardcore gamer as someone who plays all the time, whether its for professional reasons or addiction.

but you are right gameplay on this console is the best feature, however i was let down by some games, Red steel was a shoddy attempt but metroid hit it spot on. 2008 will see some spectacular releases hopefully.

the main problem seems to be the jaggys on the games like its in some dire need of anti aliasing and i played a game called GT pro series and the graphics are awefull, same with tiger woods 2007

To be fair, those two titles aren't exactly renowned for looking good - particularly the awful (in all aspects) GT Pro Series.

Mario, Zelda, RE4 and above all, Metroid Prime look great. Prime I think is actually quite spectacular. Not Gears of War, but the artistic style of it and the way the Wii is utilised has really impressed me.

I don't really understand how those 4 games, in addition to several others I own, are 'casual'. They're certainly more accessible, I would say, but aren't casual games (completing Zelda took me 50 hours... not casual).

I play my Wii on a 32" Samsung HD CRT, through component. Only CoD3 looks worse on this TV than it did on the 32" wide CRT it previously occupied. As I say, I think you'd be more than happy with the games mentioned, especially Prime 3.

Wii's are classed as casual because normal people play them instead of people called L4Z3r on a 360 in their basements with the uber FPS skillz. :p

What console is there that gameplay isn't the best feature? :S

If I had kept my Wii it would have just been the Nintendo player again, like Gamecube and N64. Their third party support is weak, but the first party is king. My only regret about not keeping my Wii is missing out on SMG (as of now).

PS3? The best feature on that (Main reason people are choosing it over 360) is because its a multimedia centre with blu ray.

The Wii is basically an advanced Gamecube and while some people say it is twice as powerful, the graphics certainly don't agree.

The wii is noticibly better.. Especially on metroid prime, the leve sizes and attention to detailing in each room is incredible at times..

Why everyone goes on about the graphics tho ill never know. Goldeneye looks pap these days in comparision yet i still play it and its one of my favorite FPS's still..

Er... I own all 3 Metroid titles. Those screenshots certainly don't do either game any justice, and Prime 3 is significantly clearer, more colourful, better lighting and more detailed than the GC versions (on a larger scale). It's also very fast thoroughout and plays in widescreen 480p, which neither of the first 2 do.

So no, those screenshots certainly don't agree. :o

The wii looks pretty pants with the standard cable it comes with. I bought the component cable over the weekend and the difference in some games is much greater than others. Wii Sports looks quitea bit better, Mario and Sonic at the Olympics looks 200% better. Zelda still looks very average. I was hoping for more with Zelda to be honest!

You got to remember zelda is a GC game.

Its hard to say if the Wii's gfx will get better you would hope so because at present a lot of games look the same as GC titles. It seems apresent devs are letting games look subpar because they know no one expects much from it. Stuff like Dewys adventure looks worse than first gen GC games.

Play a PS2 game on a PS3, its not gonna look much different is it. Its whats on the disk that determines the graphical quality, not the raw processing power of a console that is no where near 100% utilised.

I don't think we'd see graphics like SMG or MP3 on the GameCube. Admittedly it isn't a huge jump in quality, but nonetheless it's a noticable one. As to those complaining about the lack of AA - many of my 360 titles suffer some horrendous 'jaggies' at times. Not that it bothers me (if I wanted the very best in graphics, I'd still be pouring money in to my PC).

Poor screenshots. Also, the difference is still very noticable between those you showed, so I don't see your point regardless.
