Joystiq are reporting that there'll be 4 million wii's shipped before the end of the year - and that these are predicted to not meet demand by a long shot. Could it be possible that, by the time the PS3 launches in Europe, the wii will have sold more units than the 360?

I predict that, by the time the PS3 launches the figures will be:
360 - 10 million
Wii - 8 million

what do you think?

I think it may be more of each, i cant see the ps3 coming out here until at least June next year due to supply problems in other regions. Although i am probably wrong :)

(Just my guesses)

I think the PS3 will be delayed further in Europe. May is a good bet I think, but until they can supply enough for Japan and USA, they aren't even going to *think* about launching here.

The Wii will sell shed loads, but demand won't be as high as some are making out. I am sure it will break records on launch, but then Nintendo consoles often do. They huge billion dollar question is does it have the staying power, and longevity, or is it more of a gimmick.

The 360 has (imho) some of the best titles coming out ever. I think it has more than the others and with cross platform titles being best on the 360, it will just keep selling and selling.

I think:

360 : 12 - 14 million
Wii : 4 - 6 million

I assume the figures you are quoting are worldwide figures, before the PS3 launches in Europe?? Dont know why you would do that and not include PS3 figures. Or show EU figures for Wii's and Xbox 360's b y the time the PS3 launches in Europe

By the time the PS3 launches in Europe in March sony still claim to plan to shift 6million units. We all know thats hopefull, i say 4 million by end of march and maybe a bit more Wii's

I think the PS3 release will seriously affect xbox 360 sales. I honestly dont know what way though. It could be some folk are still holding out to see what its like, will see it and think 'not worth it' and buy a 360, but at the same time they might go 'OMG thats cool, i want and will wait' and some people thinking about a 360 might see the PS3 and go 'hmmm i could get one soon'
But it is too soon to tell what way it will go.
And i think Wii Sales in Europe will surprise people, i dont think they will be as high as many expect. I seriously think i will be able to walk into a game or HMV and pick up a Wii between launch and Christmas.

But i still say 1 year from january the PS3 will have outsold the 360 and the Wii.

I am sorry but being best on 360? care to show this please?? From what i can see that isnt even the case at the moment, and its Next Gen V's last gen. Using PES6 as an example ;) from what i hear online is Laggy, control not quite as good as old gen, the controller isnt as good as the PS2's to use, and according to OX360M 'It looks just like the xbox version', there are less teams, stadiums and doesn't have an edit mode?

From what i have heard cross platform between PS3 and 360, such as tiger woods look the same. (and thats from OPM who where wanting more) But if you are only interested in cross platform then the 360 is half the price so it makes sense. Even if the PS3 does use the controller a bit.

I think the PS3s release will boost 360 sales.

Guy walks into a store, can't get a PS3 as they are sold out, has a quick go of Gears of War on a demo kiosk and walks out with 360.

The Wii will sell bucketloads in Japan thou. If Nintendo can keep up supply I'd expect them to sellaround 4-6m in Japan alone.

The 4 million mentioned in the joystiq article is worldwide before the end of the year (end of 2006). The figures I was guessing at were worldwide before the EU launch of the PS3. Considering that Japan's only getting 80,000 PS3's on launch and they've been building them for a while now I doubt that, before March, they'll have made more than 3 million PS3s total - probably about 2 million. If they have only made 2 million PS3s by March the European launch will probably be pushed back to September as someone above already said.

Only one Nintendo console has ever sold out in Japan, and that was the DS, or perhaps the DS Lite. The president of Nintendo issued an apology to the people of Japan!

I imagine they'll keep up with demand on the Wii.

But as you said, cross platform games make more sense on the 360.

However, lets look at some of the games coming out this month. Take Gears of War, arguably the 360's killer title and rather likely to be better than anything similar on the PS3 (Resistance looks to be really good, but not quite up to GoW. Yes, I'm guessing, but then so is the whole thread). Then Viva Pinata, a game that will nicely broaden the appeal of the 360. Having a tv show and a game tie in already is clever.

Then there is all the titles that will be on the 360 and PS3, but since one is at very best 6 months off, and with the supurb online capabilities of the 360, suddenly complete the picture off.

Then looking ahead, we have Forza, Halo 3 and many more. I'm not going to list them, as I said, this is just a thread on peoples thoughts, but I think the 360 will do really well because of its games. No fancy tricks, just good price, good console, good games.

But hey, I might be wrong! :)

That is highly debatable. They will sell a lot at the start, but the japanese are into gaming, the casual focus of the Wii might not be so important to them. Besides, the GC did rather badly in Japan, and they might not be keen to buy the same console again. I think 4-6m in Japan is over double what will happen. Still a guess tho'.

yeah lost planet looks good and not to mention first decent rpg lost odyssey which is 360 exclusive also so seems we're going have some top quality games on our hands that can draw ppl away from ps3 specially since theres rumour of setting launch day back as far as sept .

you forgot assasins creed , call duty 3 and jericho o and bioshock which is 360 exclusive all look amazing .

I don't think CoD 3 or Assassins creed are exclusive to the 360. Assassin's Creed is on the PS3 and CoD3 will also be on the Wii.

They are not, it was the way it was phrased (again *punctuation* guys!), he meant only the last game, BioShock, is exclusive.

Ah cross platform games can make more sense on the 360, but that isnt what you said ;)

Forza and Halo 3 wont be out until after the PS3 is released, and personally i got bored in both halo and halo 2
GoW will be good and i cant wait for it, but the PS3 isnt without exclusives neither. MGS4, GT, Killzone 2 (can't wait to see the ingame footage), heavenly sword. Also chances are early next year the PS3 will get the proper version of pro evo 6 ;)
The one cross platform game i am looking forward too is GTA, i think this will be interesting to run both of them side by side.
Also dont rule out the PS3 online capabilities, the more i hear about it the better it sounds. The downloadable PS1 games which will play on your PSP, before christmas and on your PS3 after christmas. The online store games which are coming out. Also you can play these games on up to 5 machines. Also the PS3 is free online.
xbox live has some games which are suffering some chronic lag, which is just not right for a service we pay for imo.
I personally can not wait for the year ahead for both the PS3 and the xbox 360.
